Silver Salmon

Silver or Coho salmon, which replace the king salmon as the star attraction on the Alagnak River when July turns to August, are an excellent sport fish. Presenting more of a challenge to catch than chums, silvers are characterized by their aggressive behavior, and are famous for their spectacular acrobatic leaps and line-peeling runs.

Our guests often compare Alagnak silvers to fishing for steelhead!

The silver salmon begin to enter the river at the end of July, and can still be running strong into September. The middle weeks of August typically provide the best fishing for silvers.

The silver salmon runs coincide with some of the best opportunities to fish for rainbow trout and other native species such as grayling and char on flyouts. Our late season flyout package combines silver salmon fishing on the Alagnak with the opportunity to chase trophy rainbows on flyouts,
completing the perfect fly-fishing adventure!
